Parenting Your Gifted Child: A SENG-Model Parent Group

to Nov 1

Parenting Your Gifted Child: A SENG-Model Parent Group

Parents of gifted children frequently feel isolated from support. They experience an unsettling dissonance between the child-rearing practices recommended for average children and the reality of the child in their midst. The very strengths and characteristics of gifted children often result in associated problems, particularly in social and emotional areas. (Gifted Parent Groups: The SENG Model2nd Edition, pg.3)

Our groups provide a safe and supportive environment to freely discuss your child’s development and parenting challenges. You will connect with other parents, increase your awareness of your child’s unique needs, learn strategies for successful parenting, and expand your resources. Your child does not need to have been formally identified as gifted to participate. To ensure everyone benefits, space is limited to 10 participants per group.

Weekly topics include:

  • Characteristics of Gifted Children
  • Communication
  • Motivation, Enthusiasm, and Underachievement
  • Discipline and Self-Management
  • Intensity, Perfectionism and Stress
  • Idealism, Unhappiness, and Depression
  • Acquaintances, Friends, and Peers

Social Skills Groups

Rising K-2nd graders
Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:30-5pm

We use the Zones of Regulation® and Social Thinking® curriculum to help develop self-regulation, facilitate social thinking abilities and develop social skills.

Throughout each group, children will learn about concepts such as: thinking thoughts and feeling feelings, the group plan, thinking with your eyes, body in group, and whole body listening. Using these concepts, children will refine their "Social Detective" skills by learning about hidden rules and unexpected behaviors, making smart guesses, recognizing flexible and stuck thinking, determining the size of the problem, and sharing an imagination.

They will learn how to recognize their “zone”of regulation and incorporate strategies and tools to stay in a zone or move from one zone to another, including calming techniques, cognitive strategies, and sensory supports.

Children will learn how to read others' facial expressions and recognize a broader range of emotions, develop perspective about how others see and react to their behavior, gain insight into events that trigger their less regulated states, and determine when and how to use tools and problem solving skills.

To ensure every child benefits, groups are limited to six children.

Session ONE: $1100
June 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27
July 2, 9, 11 *no group July 4th*

Homeschool Open House

Have you ever thought about homeschooling but quickly dismissed the idea because you thought "I could NEVER do that!!”?? Whether it’s because you work, your kids are a challenge, you worry about what and how they are going to learn without SCHOOL…

If you are "Homeschool Curious" or know someone who is, please join us! You will learn how to *legally* homeschool in California and will hear from new and veteran homeschooling parents about the variety of ways homeschooling can be successful.

Homeschooling is NOT what you think! It’s a growing option for many families who want to break free from the traditional path or want a truly individualized curriculum for their child. And it is definitely NOT "school at home"!
